4th Grade Dual Language Teacher
Mayra Jimenez is a Mexican-American teacher who grew up on the Southwest side of Chicago and is an alumna of CPS schools. She is very passionate about promoting a sustainable lifestyle, that includes recycling, reusing and reducing waste in her school community. She likes to play the role of educator as well as student and believes that a great education now can be the cause of great change in the future. She considers herself to be an amateur world traveler, and a connoisseur of cultures. She loves cooking, reading, writing, and spending time with her family, friends, garden and pets. Her favorite educational guru is Maria Montessori who once said, “The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.”
What is your favorite place in the world and why?
My favorite place in the world is my grandmother's kitchen table.
Where would you most like to travel to and why?
I would love to travel to Paris and explore all the spaces where artist icons of art and literature lived during the Jazz age.
What is a mantra you strive to live by?
Live in the moment and notice the positive.

I am surrounded by my friends and family.
What has been your greatest adventure?
Traveling to South Korea and teaching English with a group of teachers from Chicago.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about saving the environment. I try to initiate "Being Green" initiatives and encourage people to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

The community is my favorite part of Namaste because it correlates with my family's immigration history and culture.
