Support Namaste

Happy Holidays from Namaste Charter SchoolNamaste Friends and Supporters,

Nine years ago, we received the letter that changed our daughters’ lives.

In 2006, we were overwhelmed and disheartened looking for Kindergarten options for Micaela. Public schools in Chicago were scary and private schools inaccessible.

Then we heard about Namaste Charter School — and kept our fingers crossed for the admissions lottery.

Nine years later, Mica is an intelligent, energetic, bilingual 8th grader who is exceptionally prepared for high school and beyond. Namaste has fostered Mica’s inquisitive nature, her compassion for others and her expectation to attend and graduate from college. Sadly, this is not often the priority in our part of Chicago.

We know Mica is ready to take on the challenges ahead in high school, college and career. But we may never know what aspects of Namaste deserve the most credit. Is it the exceptional teachers? The family programs like potluck dinners? The Peaceful People values? All we know is our children look forward to each school year and love going to school.

Our family donates to Namaste because we know every gift makes a difference to the school and to Chicago. We give what we can when we can because we know most families at Namaste can’t.

On behalf of the Namaste staff and entire community, please consider a gift to support our kids this holiday season. Every dollar makes a difference to our school. Thank you for your support.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season from everyone at Namaste Charter School,

P.S. Every new and increased gift to Namaste will be matched by generous anonymous donors up to $5,000! Please give what you can today.

P.P.S. You can make a one-time or monthly contribution online here, or send a check to the school:

Since 2004, Namaste Charter School has combined health and wellness with academic rigor in a peaceful environment, paving the way for an innovative, successful new model of urban education that is now being adopted in schools across the country. We are proud of Namaste’s incredible successes as we have grown from just 90 Kindergarten and first graders our first year to 480 students today.

Namaste students are excelling at astonishing levels with 98% of Namaste students in the general education program meeting or exceeding state standards—the highest achievement among all of Chicago’s 61 charter and contract schools (2012 Illinois Standards Achievement Test).

And while Namaste is spending nearly 20% less than the district to educate each student, we are providing much more—including 60 minutes of daily Physical Education, a healthy breakfast and lunch, no-cost family wellness and educational workshops and our “Peaceful  People” conflict resolution program.

Although Namaste receives some public funding, 20% of our operating budget must be raised through private contributions. It is through the generosity of foundations, corporations and individuals like you that we are able to provide the high quality, holistic programming that changes the trajectory of our underserved students’ lives.
